Project: Bear Sanctuary Chengdu

The Animals Asia Foundation aims to free all moonbears currently held on 'Bear Farms' across China.
These bears are kept in pitifully small cages no larger than their own bodies. A catheter has been crudely inserted into each bear, whereupon bile is extracted on a daily basis. A painful and cruel procedure.

In early 2000 Animals Asia began construction of a 'semi-natural' Bear Sanctuary set in 25 acres of Sichuan Province, China.

Jill has been actively involved in the design of enclosures which offer the bears the greatest level of comfort possible.

To date 140 bears have been rescued and work is still ongoing, with the intention being to house and care for 1000 bears at this location.
